Character Counts/YMCA Youth Achievers Awards

  • Five teens from New Mexico recognized for positively changing their lives with the lessons of Character Counts
  • Teens honored during National Character Counts Week, October 15-21
  • Teens awarded NMBA scholarship money; a trophy; hometown newspaper mention. Featured in national Character Counts web site, national YMCA magazine
  • Planned evening reception for teens with Senator Domenici October 20, Mountainside YMCA in Albuquerque. Woodmen of the World sponsors reception, pays for trophies and helps pay travel expenses for award winners from outlying areas
  • Teens nominated by counselors, teachers and peers in August-September. Panel of representatives from sponsoring organizations and companies select awardees from these regions: Albuquerque, Rio Rancho-Bernalillo, Northern New Mexico (Espanola-Santa Fe-Las Vegas), Ruidoso, Las Cruces
  • Partner organizations: New Mexico Federaion of Republican Women, Woodmen of the World
  • NM FR helps manage the contest in each region, and members help boost NMBA scholarship fund
